Information about recovery and aftermath from Irene

Here is a link to some pictures of the storm damage. http://www.youtube.com/user/oregoninletidiots#p/a/u/0/71UwFbvRh24 Most of our guests won't see these areas because the storm hit soundside, where the year round residents live. But other more popular areas like downtown Manteo and Rodanthe were hit hard by the storm. Here's some places to check and to donate if you'd like:

Outer Banks Community Foundation has set up  a specific Dare County Disaster Relief Fund. Go to www.obcf.org for more info.

Outer Banks SPCA - http://obxspca.rescuegroups.org/ In need of dog food, cat food, towels, newspapers. Many pets have been abandoned and folks south of Oregon Inlet are in desperate need of these items. ...

NCDOT has posted a map of the damaged areas so you can see where the exact location is. You can click on the marker and an aerial photo will show the damage:

And if you're in the area, the following items are needed by the residents in Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo: plastic totes, batteries, plastic ware, paper plates, trash bags, buckets, pitch forks, wheel barrows, large heavy duty trash bags and cans, gas, propane, shovels and heavy duty gloves. There will be a boat heading down to deliver the collected items later this week. Items can be dropped off at 208 W. Fresh Pond Dr. in KDH

Village Realty will accept food pantry donations. Any departing or arriving guests who wish to donate non-perishable food items VR will make sure they reach the right people.
